Pay Your Taxes!

But get a TAX BREAK

The IRS has a storied history. There’s the story of the 10-year-old boy who had his savings account confiscated by the IRS. There’s the story of the 17-year-old girl who the IRS threatened to garnish her wages and put a lien on her property if she didn’t fork over $16 in taxes her uncle had already paid. There’s the story of IRS workers throwing away or hiding returns in order to keep up with work. TAX BREAK relates the story of Jim Greenwald, a man so enraged by the IRS that he plants a bomb in their Austin facility after they confiscate his bar for unpaid taxes. The FBI and local police chase him across the United States while a third-party presidential candidate starts a riot after he declares Greenwald to be a hero of the people. This book explodes with more action when a CIA agent attempts to silence Greenwald before he can expose his past adventures executed for The Company. Yes, you still have to pay your taxes, but you can at least channel your anger by turning the pages of this exciting story of one man’s war on the IRS.

If you're a fan of Tom Clancy or John Grisham novels you should read this one by Jay Williams.Vietnam vet, CIA trained operative, hard-luck bartender Jim Greenwald sets out to get revenge on an uncaring, overbearing big brother government. Set in Austin, Texas, it's a fast paced train to an amazing conclusion. Like getting from car to car on a train, there are some drastic lurches but once you regain your balance, you'll enjoy what's in the next car. What's best is that there's enough content for a couple of movies. Let's hope someone notices it and decides to bring it to the screen.

Tax Break edition by Jay Williams Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

Tax Break represents the world's view of government agencies as greedy number crunchers. While not every organization is dirty or beastly this book shines a light on those who are. This time the IRS, if there is anyone you don't want on your back is them. While the book is set in the 80's there's the symbolism of greed and organizations attacking individuals to the point of idiocy and indecency. Dumping people on the street and not giving them fair or reasonable ways to pay their taxes is just wrong. This book spotlights the need to take care of each other and at the end of the day that is what we should all do. Also that a man pushed too far will do desperate things. Something to remember. Highly recommend.

Tax Break, by Jay Williams, is set in the 1980s – the story of an alienated Vietnam vet, Jim Greenwald, who rebels after being jerked around by the IRS. Williams places a caveat in the beginning of his book – “Don’t try this at home.” In the post-9/11, post Oklahoma City bombing world, the things Greenwald is able to do would be nearly impossible to pull off.
When the IRS takes Greenwald and his partner Lenny Manning, a fellow vet, to court to seize their bar for nonpayment of back taxes, Greenwald is driven to the point of desperation. “How,” he asks, “Can the government that sent them to the hell of Vietnam, now that they are rehabilitated and off the streets, throw them back out on the streets?” The answer, as Greenwald discovers, is that the government – or the minions who make up the government – is not looking at the individual, and in missing this, takes actions that end up hurting the individuals it is supposed to help. Greenwald vows to give a little payback.
What will resonate with today’s reader, though, is the sense of government bureaucrats who care little about the people they were hired to serve, and self-serving politicians who are willing to sacrifice the greater good for short-term political advantage.
Williams paints a compellingly realistic picture of the individual against the system, and the alienation of people from their government. Gritty dialogue and believable characters march across the page, dripping real sweat and crying real tears. This is a genre-defying novel that you’ll find impossible to put down.
Jay Williams has written a book which will enchant all who are not enchanted by the IRS. Those who distrust big insensitive government and its bureaucracies will feel right at home. And anyone shocked into action by the unpredictable nature of unintentioned consequences will note a rise in testosterone . If that doesn't put you off, let's continue.

The story is of a decent, just and violent man caught in the pincers of the IRS and the legal system. How he extracts himself, disciplines his opponents, finds and abandons love, is the first line of the story. There are subsets and the action moves from Austin, Texas around the west, up to Canada and back, with brief visits to Washington D.C. and the campaign trail. Our attention is always on the main character, Jim Greenwald, an ex-warrior in Vietnam and other places of interest to the government who owned him. He is a prototype of the American who plays by the rules he's been taught, is fair and just with his fellows, pursues the Dream, and is placed on the bend/fold/mutilate list through inadvertence. The violent course of his attempts to straighten out the "misunderstanding" takes our full attention and causes the pages to fly. This is a one night read, for who can put it down?

Recommended for ten to the power of six readers. For those mathematically challenged, that's 10 million which should be enough for Mr. Williams to satisfy even the insatiable IRS.
